My Review

I am going to preface this review with the fact that I am neither charismatic, nor Pentecostal as far as Christian denominations go- I think it's only fair the reader know that before I review.

I personally feel that the Holy Spirit is very overlooked in churches today. I think because the Holy Spirit can be hard for our human minds to wrap around, we tend to miss out on a lot of blessings and opportunities to serve the Lord, because we don't recognize His voice when He calls us to do things.  Sometimes we are afraid of being called too charismatic or too emotional when we feel the Lord is calling us to do things (aka the Holy Spirit). I know the Holy Spirit speaks and leads to action as I have personally experienced this on a frequent basis, and my experiences were real and genuine. So for this devotional, I felt like it was interesting that the authors were some historical, some contemporary, and they all spoke on different aspects of the Holy Spirit and Scripture. I feel like the devotional lacked application aspects in general for a devotional. I felt like they had some universally know pillars of the Christian faith included, but also included a lot of Pentecostal forerunners that I had never heard of. I didn't agree with about 40% of the book because I am not a Pentecostal, and so that obviously affected my ability to enjoy the book, and glean truth from it. However, there was a lot of Scripture and truth inside, and like I said, I don't necessarily disagree with the focus on Pentecost because we don't emphasize the Holy Spirit like we should. So, if you are of the Pentecostal or charismatic persuasion, this one is for you! If not, you may have mixed feelings like I did.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, and all opinions given are entirely my own.
