My Review

I found this book to be a rough and tumble unexpected romance with just enough predictability to give that comfort we get from a good clean romance book or movie. I found Jo and David to be very nicely developed and continue to develop throughout the story. I found plenty of action to keep me on my toes although nothing overly terrifying which I prefer in a romance story. I found the terrain to be well described as well the characters to where I felt transported to that time and place. I felt the story and conflicts were just really well described and really provided an emotional experience where you are really sucked into the story. I enjoyed the sub-characters as well and felt the author really used her expertise to perfect every element of the story. I recommend this one for those looking for an adventurous historical romance.

I wanted to explore that idea: wild children, tough young women, afraid of the invading world, but lonely, too. So I created the plot for my Brides of Hope Mountain series by mixing the three little girls who’d grown up wild on the top of a mountain with some fairy tale ideas. Book one, Aiming for Love, is Josephine Nordegren’s story. I had this vision of Ariel the mermaid seeing a man for the first time when strangers invade the high valley she lives in with only her two sisters. Curiosity is her besetting sin, or so she’s always been told. She has wilderness skills, mainly in the form of owning a bow and arrow and understanding wild animals, but for the first time, she is drawn to a man. Jo needs to be tamed, or Dave, the man she can’t stop watching from in the woods, needs to learn the ways of the wild, because they’re out of place in each other’s worlds.

My Review



I think this book is so aptly timed considering the celebrities we have heard recently who have come to Jesus- which is very encouraging to see. I'm thankful the Lord is always working and none of us are beyond His salvation! So now to the book, I enjoyed Ben and Lily and their different struggles and development. The thread of faith was not preachy, but equally woven throughout the story along with the romance that seems quite unattainable  when the story unfolds. I felt like the author really thrust us into the two worlds and shows the challenges of each and the collision that inevitably happens between the two. I felt the plot was a good pace with intriguing conflicts. I feel like those looking for a clean romance with a strong thread of faith will like this one.

Why Hollywood?

That’s a great question! Of all the places I could have set a Christian romance novel, why pick Hollywood? It isn’t exactly the first place that pops into your mind when you think Christian romance, right?

The truth is I spent four years of my life trying to become an actress. I was a theatre major in the Los Angeles area and I spent a lot of time in Hollywood. I’ve been down Hollywood Boulevard, visited casting offices, and gone to open-call auditions. In those years, I saw the good and the bad of the movie industry. I saw dreams shattered and hearts broken under the glamourous lights of the Sunset Strip. Years later, when I started thinking about writing a Christian romance, I knew Hollywood was the perfect setting to tell the story of God’s unchanging, never-ending love for us.

Mission Hollywood isn’t just one love story, it’s two. The romance between Ben and Lily is definitely swoon-worthy, but there is also the story of how much God loves us. I hope you enjoy Mission Hollywood…it’s only the beginning of the story for the Shaw Family. Book two is coming in February!

My Review



Wow! This one is going in my top 10 of all time books!!! This book deals with a dark topic and epoch of history, but one that was sadly true. The author immediately grabs our senses and emotions so that you are transported with the character to her life. The pace of the story is perfect, and the twists and turns make the best kind of story telling. My heart just ached with the heroine and boy did I see her in all her sadness. The need for belonging was so real and pulsed through the entire story. This book is certainly not for the faint of heart because it deals with some dark history and some real accounts of abuse, but there is hope found within and I feel it is worth the read. I don't remember the last time I read such development of characters, such delicate beautiful prose, such transportation to the time and place- maybe Francine Rivers? This author is equally skilled. I haven't read this author before, and from now on, I will be getting her books as soon as they release. This one is a fiction reader MUST READ!!!

The Bright Unknown was born out of a seed of a true story that my husband’s grandmother, Gigi, shared with me. Gigi told me that when she was a young girl living in Oklahoma her mom had a friend who was a nurse. During one of her visits over coffee she would occasionally talk about her patients at the local asylum. One particular story really intrigued Gigi and even decades later she still remembered it. The story was about a patient who had a baby while at the hospital and while Gigi remembers nothing about the patient or the child, she knew that when she moved out of Oklahoma several years later that asylum-born girl was around eighteen and still living within the walls of that hospital along with her patient-mother.





That story stuck with me. This trapped girl and her mother wouldn’t let me go. I began to wonder over her and ask all sorts of unanswered questions. Slowly but surely my imagined story for her came to life. Layer after layer I learned about Brighton, my name for her. I also named two characters after Gigi, her first and middle, as an honor to her. This story was born from a memory but now these characters feel real and present in my life today and I hope you will journey with them in The Bright Unknown.

My Review



I've really enjoyed the devotionals from our author, and I think she really hits the nail on the head for various topics and practical application for individual or group study. This devotional looked at different leaders in the Bible like Isaac, Jacob, David, and more and shows us how the Lord led them, and then how they led because of their devotion to Christ. The author shows us America's roots with a lot of founding fathers and America's history and how their Christian principles founded the nation. The author calls us to look back to the Bible and our heritage to return to following the Lord and praying for our nation to make an impact here today. I totally agree with the author that we should pray for our nation, be active in politics, and attempt to make a difference where we are to influence our community for Christ. I agree with most all the author's theology as well. My only caveat would be that because of the topic, some may feel put off especially with politics being as divisive as it is today. Overall, I feel the author put out another practical well thought out devotional, it may just not be for everyone because of the topic focus.

My Review



I found myself in tears more than once reading this sweet but difficult memoir. What a testimony our author and her family have! In a truly personal style, our author gives us the story of becoming a widow not once, but twice through unexpected health issues. Wow the way our author was just so honest about her pain and how the Lord truly met every need. She cries out in prayer to find the strength and comfort she is lacking through it all. The book reminds me to cherish my husband because we never know when the Lord will call one of us home. This book inspired me to find true fulfillment in the Lord when life is beyond hard. I really recommend this one for those hurting from a recent or long ago loss, or those looking for encouragement from an inspiring testimony.
