My Review

So as far as a Christian Historical Suspense goes, this one is truly excellent in every way. Intriguing and well depicted historical backdrop, truly evil villains, emotional, relatable protagonists, and a plot that will glue you to the page. The author grabs you from page one and keeps a firm grip until you finish the book. With all that preamble, this story is truly terrifying - no other way to describe it. The fact that a woman existed (and I know that the black market still exists in this) that would trick parents or kidnap children to sell to those who wanted to adopt makes me absolutely sick to my stomach as I was for the entire reading of this book. Being an adoptive mother, I felt pained by this story so much, not because the book was poorly written, but because the content was just that unsettling for me partly because of the pain of the mom separated from her child, and partly because of the nightmare adoption becomes for the children and adoptive families involved in the story, and what was most painful is that this really happened. With all that said, I appreciate the author showing how adoption shouldn't be done, and how it should be done as well as bringing awareness to the grief for birth parents, the child, and adoptive parents in the process which I feel a lot of people don't understand. Obviously this can be a huge trigger for those involved in adoption in any way from social worker, to birth parent, to an adopted child- it certainly was for me. Overall, I would recommend this book for those who enjoy suspense, history, or just a poignant, well thought out Christian fiction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, and all opinions given are entirely my own.
